Hi

I have a problem with proc import, when I try to import an .xls file I receive an error -

"Spreadsheet isn't from Excel V5 or later.  Please open it in Excel and Save as V5 or later

Requested Input File Is Invalid

ERROR: Import unsuccessful.  See SAS Log for details."

I've used XLS as DBMS.

Is the file and Excel file, is it later version than 5?  Try opening it in Excel, then do SaveAs and check what is highlighted in the filetype on the SaveAs dialog.  Also, post your code which is causing the issue, I never use DBMS= for Excel files as SAS normally chooses the best fit.

Excel 97-2003 is highlited in the filetype.

Ok, I deleted DBMS and SAS set it to EXCELCS but now it wants server name.

So what software are you using - Enterprise Guide, Base SAS?  It sounds like it may even be the University Edition which from what I see on here doesn't allow uploading of data.  What do you mean, SAS set it to ExcelCS?  Is this some generated code?

Ok, I figured it out, the file itself was a problem. But I have a different problem now, is it possible to use different encoding when using proc import? I'm asking this because there seem to be some language problems and some of the characters aren't showing properly.
