I have few queries in DI studio please help me out

1) What is the difference betwwen Cube creation in DI studio and OLAP Designer?

2) What is the difference between Splitter and Extract Transformation both will do the same ?

3)What is CUBE Aggregation what are the uses of IT

Hi.,

1) Cube Designer in DI Studio and Cube Designer in OLAP Cube studio both are similar but if u will create a cube in DI studio it will reflect in OLAP Cube Studio....

2). Difference b/w Splitter and Extract.

Using Splitter Transformation u can Split the data in to two different datasets as per conditions. For every dataset can provide the conditions.

For example u have data set called EMP (eid, ename, joining_date) now based on Joining date u have to split the data in two different data sets one for joined before 1/1/2008 and after........

But in Extract transformation only one condition will apply. U can’t give two conditions (either of the condition dataset only).

Aggregations: An aggregation is the summarization of one or more levels. To improve performance, add additional aggregations designed to match the data requested from the client.

The Advanced Aggregation Tuning function provides automatic generation of cube aggregations. The Advanced Aggregation Tuning function includes two aggregation generation methods

Cross-Dimensional: constructs aggregations using the different combinations of levels across all hierarchies.

ARM Analysis: constructs aggregations using the ARM log (created when the cube is queried with ARM logging on). Constructs aggregations using the different combinations of levels across all hierarchies.

Hi Michel,

1) For Cube creation both Tools SAS DI and SAS OLAP Cube Studio will do the same. but Major difference is to avoid the resticted license violation of the workspace servers, Rather than the unrestirct license with SAS DI and Integration tech server.

2) Splitter Transformation base on your condition data will split into different tables, Where as extract is nothing but Where condition. eg:
Gender="male" then it will give the information only male and it ignore the female information. by splitter you will send the individual data information into different tables.

3) Aggregration is nothing but the Sumarization group of the Levels . basically it will improve the query performance.

And any updated information let me know michel.

Thanks & Regards
