Correct Usage of IF?

Is both the usages right?????

if admit <= bate{i} <= discharge then do;

if admit <= bate{i} AND bate{i} <= discharge then do;

Both will work and should evaluate the same in a data step. There is also BETWEEN for use in Proc SQL.
