Hi Everyone,

I have a data set, let say 2000 observations.
I need to assign every hundred obs with a number.
For instance, the first 100 obs get number 1; the second 100 obs get number 2, and so on.
obs-------number
1----------1
2----------1
3----------1
.-----------1
.-----------1
100-------1
101-------2
102-------2
.-------
.-------
.-------
2000-------20

Here is my code:
data test;
retain number;
set test;

nrec=1;
num=1;
if nrec=1 then number=num;
nrec=nrec+1;
if nrec=101 then do;
number=num+1;
nrec=1;
end;

Thank you,
Lani

Lani,

Are you only trying to accomplish something like?:

data test;
set test;
if mod(_n_,100) eq 1 then number+1;
run;
