i have 7 variables

i need to create a SUM variable which counts the number of non missings

HAVE

id     var1   var2    var3     var4   var5   var6    var7

101      1         1         .           .           .        .          .

102       1         1        1          1

WANT

id     var1   var2    var3     var4   var5   var6    var7   sum

101      1         1         .           .           .        .          .         2

101      1         1        1          1           .        .          .         4

If it's a count then it isn't a sum. No array needed

the function is N

sum= n(of Var1-var7);

If the names aren't that nice in reality then us  n (varname othervar thisvar thatvar);
