contrast Statment in proc glm or proc mixed

hi all,

i have one doubt, that is how to construct "contrast" statment?

* which considerations need to take ?

* how to take -1 0 1 values?, i know total value equal to 0 that the case we use one value for 1 and anthor variable valu for -1 but how we deside 1 and -1 values for perticular varibles ??

please slove my issue.. as early as possible ?
