General Info required: SAS- Clinical trials

Hi,

I am working on SAS ETL programming in one of telecom project.

I have heard a lot that most of the SAS work is done for Clinical trials projects in healthcare domain.
Can someone share their experience what exactly is clinical trial? and what work is done in such projects using SAS programming language and which SAS tools are mostly used in this.

Any help/pointer will be appreciated.
