GDP Nowcasting Use Case

Incorporating Gross Domestic Product (GDP) nowcasts allows Insurance Companies to enhance Dynamic Financial Analysis (DFA) models to dynamically adjust assumptions based on real-time economic signals, improving strategic decision-making and solvency analysis.

GDP reflects the overall economic activity and is a leading indicator for:

  • Claim frequency and severity (e.g., economic downturns → more claims)
  • Premium growth (e.g., booming economy → more insured assets)
  • Investment returns (e.g., GDP growth → equity market performance)
  • Underwriting cycles (e.g., competitive pressure during economic expansion).

What we aim in our use case is to build a forecasting model by utilizing SAS Dynamic Actuarial Modelling on Viya.
