The 2016 Foresight Practitioner Conference is October 5-6 in Raleigh, NC, in conjunction with the North Carolina State University Institute for Advanced Analytics. The theme is “Worst Practices in Forecasting: Today’s Mistakes to Tomorrow’s Breakthroughs.” This unique event focuses on “worst practices” because eliminating harmful forecasting behaviors can bring performance improvements that dwarf the gains you get from improved modeling. Presentations from accomplished industry practitioners and academic researchers will disclose these bad habits, and equip you with ways to mitigate the policies, behaviors, and procedures that chronically hinder forecasting performance.
This sounds like a great conference. For more information, or if you are unable to participate in the conference, two great resources are expert J. Scott Armstrong's list of Standards and Practices for Forecasting and this great paper reviewing hundreds of other works and a myriad of forecasting methods and techniques.
