Hi,

Our organisation is planning to migrate to Windows Server 2008 and
we are using sas 9.1. And our question is:
Would this program run on Windows 2008 without any problems
and is it officially supported by sas?

Best regards,

Fabian Stans

Recommend checking the SAS Support website http://support.sas.com/ and specifically the SAS 9 platform support page (link below):

If no specific mention about your platform, recommending opening a SAS support track from the SAS support website.

Currently, Windows Server 2008 is not officially supported because the necessary Java VM is not available. However, there is some work ongoing to make this happen in the future.

I know software companies hate to commit to future plans, but can SAS Institute provide a rough timeframe of when SAS 9.2 will be supported on Windows Server 2008 x64?

Thanks in advance for any insight about this you can provide.

We were recently told "late summer" 2009. Anyone else have insight?

Java VM now has support under Windows 2008. Is there an ETA on SAS support for Windows 2008. I am not inclined to setup a new server with the now very old Windows 2003.

Rick,

I checked with our folks internally and it looks like now, with the JVM support, we can support SAS 9.1.3 on Windows 2008. SAS 9.1.3 is a 32-bit app on Windows, so it runs in 32-bit mode if you use a 64-bit OS.

I saw your tech support track with this question. I will follow up with the tech support consultant to verify the information.

Also, note this advice for installation:

Rick,

Here is the new official statement:

Note it says "Windows Server 2008 32-bit editions only", but I think this really means as a 32-bit app even on x64.
