modifying variable labels

is there an EG task that would help me make a standard change within all variable labels in a data set -
for example: from "_" to " ".

Coming through SAS/Access from database columns, almost all of these variables have the database column name in the SAS variable label and any non-standard symbol has become an underscore (_).

Before I create the small code node with proc datasets, does a task already exist to do this or to help me with this tidy-up exercise?

No, there isn't such a task to modify the data attributes "in place" -- your PROC DATASETS code node is the best approach.
