Hello friends,
we have new SAS server 9.4 on Windows 8. It is currently avaiable for few users only and we see many different issues and uncertain things like;
-> we see lock ICON on every SAS datasets and SAS batch files. Even for some text files
-> when we open even small datasets (for example, 100k obs) it takes lot of time to open
-> when we try to open base SAS or any other app like EG, it takes lot of time to open sometime
-> we also receive windows error:64 while accessing some shares drive
error: windows error code: 64 in hx_disk_is_dir for \\xxxxxxxxx. the specified network name is no longer is availble (error while running job in batch). BUT when run via base SAS, it runs fine.
Any suggestions?
- do we have more security in place? becasue when we were using sas 9.1, this was not happening. Its like old server 9.1 was working fine for us than 9.4 🙂

Firstly a SAS server would not be running on Windows 8 which is for PCs only. More likely it would be running on Windows Server 2012 or similar.
The symptoms you are having seem to be a combination of performance and permissions issues. Have these problems been present ever since your new SAS 9.4 server became available or did they start happening later? These types of problems can be difficult to diagnose so I suggest you raise a track with SAS Tech Support.
You should also talk to your SAS administrators and IT people as they should be monitoring server performance. They should also be aware of the setup differences between 9.1 and 9.4 as a starting point to resolving your problems.

You should feed this back to the SAS installers and administrators to be resolved. Usually with new SAS installs there is a UAT period when all of these types of issues are investigated and fixed.
