But it is alright when file is imported manually.

Unless you've created a macro variable priror to the macro you showed, with the name yymmdd, I don't see how that code could run.
I think you should post some contents of original file to judge .

I agree with Ksharp that we don't have enough information to help directly. However, you could try the Enterprise Guide Data --> open task to get the spreadsheet into SAS. EGuide has much better Excel data handling than PROC IMPORT.
