We keep a Virtual Desktop Deployment architechture in our organisation which is deployed to all as Windows 8.1 VDIs. The VDI image is updated every few months, and includes an installation of SAS EG. (Fresh install + hotfixes up to date)

The problem is that our SAS EG is part of a massive 30Gb SAS Depot. We were wondering if SAS has a Standalone SAS EG setup we could use instead, as it is easier to deploy, especially if we are required to drag a massive 30GB depot across the network to install it.

Has anyone else encountered such an issue?

Look in the SAS Deployment Wizard manual about independant installers for EG and AMO.

Else you could subset the depot by OS or product (... I think).

The depot should include a directory "standalone installs", inside which you find "SAS_Enterprise_Guide_Independent_Installer", then subdirectory "7.1", which contains "SASEnterpriseGuide71_x86_x64.exe", the standalone installer.

Be aware that this installer cannot solve all prerequisites (.NET etc) on its own.

Yep. Nowadays, the SDW has options to create a sub-depot. Useful (eg) for Management Console, Information Map and OLAP Cube Studio. Would be nice, though, to have independent installers for those, also.

(The sub-depot of 9.4 for the three mentioned above still has 10 GB!)
