UPDATE:  Apologies, I totally missed @jwilson's response that did the same thing as what I tried below.  Thank you for the details.  That worked for me for now.

I may have found a solution, but I'm sure it will return at some point because I'm already starting to see some hanging and occasional crashing when undocking coding tabs.

I renamed sas folders with "_old" at the end in the following locations:

• C:\ProgramData
• C:\Users\<user>\Appdata\local
• C:\Users\<user>\Roaming

I restarted the remote computer then opened SAS EG to rebuild those folders.  It stopped crashing.  Again, how long it will last given I'm already noticing one-off crashes and freezes.
