SAS EG 7.1 64bits - Export .mdb

Hi all,

We recently upgraded to SAS EG 7.1, connection with SAS 9.4 M5. Now, we have installed SAS EG 64 bits. Because some users needs to export to Microsoft Access, after installed SAS EG 7.1 we removed Office 32 bits and change it to Office to 64 bits. But after this changed, we still don't see .mdb options in import/export menu. We installed Access 2010 64 bits and we remove completed the 32 bits version.

Any idea why?

The 64bit version of Enterprise Guide is not able to export data directly to MS Access. Enterprise Guide uses the MS Jet engine to export data and the MS Jet is a 32bit driver, so it is not compatible with 64bit Enterprise Guide.You would need to use the 32bit version of Enterprise Guide to export data to an .mdb file.

Thanks for quickly answer. But we found some documents on SAS that says that we need to have the same version of office and EG to works. Please find below:

Related, but applies to import rather than export... in the EG help (Help->SAS Enterprise Guide Help), the "Working with Data: File types that SAS Enterprise Guide reads and writes" topic has this note:

"In the 64-bit version of SAS Enterprise Guide, you can import Microsoft Access files (*.mdb, *.accdb) only if the 64-bit version of Microsoft Access or the 64-bit version of the Microsoft Office System (ACE) Driver is installed. Similarly, if you are running the 32-bit version of SAS Enterprise Guide, then you must have the 32-bit version of Microsoft Access or the Microsoft Office System (ACE) Driver in order to import Microsoft Access files."

Yes, that is correct for importing MS Access files, but the export method is different. It does not use the MS ACE driver. It uses the MS JET driver, which is only a 32bit driver. Therefore, only the 32bit version of Enterprise Guide can export to an .mdb file.

Thanks again, @jebjur. So you said me that if we select "Import" menu, the .mdb type files appears but when we use "Export" menu don't?

Correct, when you select File - Import Data, the 'Open' dialog window opens and the default filter for 'Files of type' will list all the Importable Data files, including both .mdb and .accdb file types). You can also click the drop-down arrow and select other file types, including 'All Files'. However, during the import, you can get an error if you are importing a file such as an MS Access file and the bitness of the appropriate driver does not match the bitness of Enterprise Guide (for example, you have 32bit MS Office and the ACE driver and 64bit Eguide). 

In regards to exporting data to external files, the 64bit version of Eguide does not support working with Access files, along with a few other older formats. When users selected these file formats, they would get an error, and since there will never be a 64bit version of the JET engine, these file formats were removed from the user interface. In the 32bit version of Enterprise Guide, you can still select to export data to an .mdb file.

Do you know if there is any SAS documents that describe it? Our customer ask us for a document from SAS about it.
