EGuide 4.3 4.3 will be here this summer. Early summer, per the news at SGF.

It will not be released with the 9.2 M3 maintenance (Boo!), but should be shortly after, with the BI 4.3 release. It is not yet clear how those of us with EG but without BI will get it.

Very little change in the point-and-click part of the user interface. Big change in the code editor. Context sensitive keyword completion. Hover help for keywords. The ability to reverse engineer old code to see what it is doing. Lots of goodies for the programmer. Relative file addressing. Lots of things to make life easier.

Wish I could be there at SGF! My favorite stealth features of 4.3 are:

1. You can name a process flow AUTOEXEC, and it will execute as soon as you open the project (and click Yes, I want to run this). Makes project-specific libraries so much easier!

2. There are convenient buttons in the Log window to let you search for the next warning/error message. You could always do a Find before, but this is faster and more accurate.

Thanks for the update Doc. I didn't know the current details on release schedule, so I'm glad for the info!

Re: how you'll get it...

Once it's released as production, you simply refresh your SAS order and download the latest into a SAS software depot. The release schedule is tied to other BI clients, but the delivery is not. All customers (SAS for Windows, EG users, as well as BI users) can get the latest once it's released.

Scheduled to ship this summer.

Context sensitive keyword completion:
Nice! Hope that this will come as a scroll down list like other code editors have it since years.

Hover help for keywords:
Sounds helpful.

The ability to reverse engineer old code to see what it is doing:
Very curious how this is implemented.

I'm still missing:
- A reasonable debugger.
- A metadata browser and/or metadata query wizard.

Patrick,

The syntax completion works very similar to what you're used to from other tools. The hover help (also via F1) will be a tremendous boost for programmers, I believe.

The code analyzer (reverse engineering) uses the SCAPROC procedure that was added in SAS 9.2 to run the program and report on all kinds of information about it, and show the result in a process flow.

Read the paper and see screenshots:

Thanks for the link.

I missed the SCAPROC addition so far. I'll sure have a look into this one as well.

Patrick Just read the paper Chris pointed me to:
Really happy with the EG enhancements - and I was already very happy with the new SAS DI version for SAS9.2.
Seems that we're experiencing a very productive period from SAS R&D

Patrick,

"Seems that we're experiencing a very productive period from SAS R&D"

Of course! SAS customers should expect no less.

We're getting conflicting information as to when EG 4.3 will be available. We're a Canadian customer who is planning our migration to 9.2 (and all of the latest BI tools) in September. Will EG4.3 be available by then? We don't want to have to migrate our users to 4.2 and then again to 4.3.... Any ideas?
