EG error:there was an error reading the project file, the format is invalid or not correct

My project named 'Project_Macro' was automatically closed due to system being hanged,. when I tried to recover the project I am getting the following error message.

"there was an error reading the project file, the format is invalid or not correct"

what does it mean?. Can some one help me.

Time to call tech support.  Your "recovered" project may be toast. 

Once burned, twice cautious:  Manually save periodically in addition to the autosave.
