EG 7.1 on Windows-64 with SAS 9.4M3.

1. Open SAS dataset. It displays with rows, columns, values.Great.

2. Select a task. Message pops with an OK button saying "Error Opening Data".

3. Click OK, dialog goes away, dataset is still displayed. Just cannot

I tried this on a variety of SAS datasets. DMS reads them just fine.

I installed EG 7.1 from a depot with 9.04.01M3P062415 by installing addition software via the SDW.

EG Log is attached. I could not see anything untoward.

I am running self-contained on my laptop (no external server) with just a metadata server instance.

Wow. The shoe is on the other foot. This is too cool.

This might be user error. <do not use profile> let's me run the tasks. Hmmmm.....still have not seen that error before. Sorry for taking up bandwidth. I guess I am rusty 🙂

Jim - welcome to the community!

Is the data in a metadata library that isn't pre-assigned?  Opening a task should trigger a library assignment, but it's better to have metadata libraries pre-assigned (if you can), so that the access to the data is unambiguous in the UI and any programs you run.
