Do I need a SAS9 license to use SAS Enterprise Guide with SAS Viya?

Hi.

I'm currently thinking of migrating to SAS Viya.

SAS EnterpriseGuide is a great product and I plan to continue using it.

I heard that SAS Enterprise guide 8.4 allows for interactive processing with SAS Viya.

If I want to continue using SAS Enterprise Guide, do I need to license SAS Viya and SAS9?

I'm glad you are finding success with SAS Enterprise Guide.

You do not need a SAS 9 license to continue using SAS Enterprise Guide with SAS Viya. In fact, in early 2025 there is a planned release of SAS Enterprise Guide that is just for connecting to SAS Viya (that version won't have the feature to connect to SAS 9). Of course, if you have both SAS 9 and SAS Viya, you can continue using your current SAS Enterprise Guide.

Just to add to Chris' response above, SAS Studio Analyst must be licensed for each user either as an addon or part of the Viya offering to use SAS Enterprise Guide with SAS Viya.  You can license SAS Studio Engineer as an alternative to Analyst.
