I'm sure this is in the documentation somewhere, but I cannot figure it out. I am new to Enterprise Guide and administering SAS. I have a single-user implementation on SAS, Enterprise Guide, and Enterprise Miner on a personal workstation running Windows XP 64-bit.

I want to be able to easily do parallel processing in Enterprise Guide. I can set up my diagram for one node to run using "Local" and another node to run on "SASAPP server", which happens also to be my local machine. When I do this, the code will run in parallel. However, I would like to create multiple servers so that I could run more than two threads in parallel.

I understand I would need to be attentive to things like libnames and dependencies in my code, and that is not a problem, as I have done this in Base SAS using SYSTASK syntax.

What I cannot figure out is how to add more "servers" to my installation, understanding that all of them will in reality be the same machine. There seem to be a lot of options in either Enterprise Guide or SAS Management Console, including different types of servers, but I cannot seem to get what I want.

Any thoughts?

To set up multiple logical servers on a local machine, you need:
- a metadata server
- object spawner
- SAS Management Console

Since you already have a SASApp server, I'm guessing that you have all of this already. So the steps are: in SAS Management Console, use the Server Manager plugin to create another server context (say, SASApp2). It can be exactly the same as SASApp, host, port, command, and all. It needs only a unique name.

Once configured and added to the Object Spawner (important step!), you can refresh the spawner. It should then appear in your server list within SAS Enterprise Guide.
