Hello everyone,

As you know, there are four selections for Model Functions which are Classification, Segmentation, Prediction and Analytical. I want examples from somebody who can explain very clearly differences between on of these four model functions.

There are many detalied definitions about this subject but it is not easy to understand without samples.

Can someone help me with this?

Thank you,

Hi,

The SAS Model Manager 14.2 on SAS 9.4 Tutorials.zip file on the SAS Model Manager Product Documentation page has examples of Classification and Prediction models. I do not have an example of a segmentation model.  The model function project property is used to group models by function type. A project with a model function of “Analytical” can contain models of any type of model function.

Here is the information in the SAS documentation regarding classification and prediction model functions.

  • SAS Model Manager 14.2: User’s Guide (SAS 9.4)
General Properties --> Types of Model Functions

  • SAS Model Manager 15.2: User’s Guide (SAS Viya)
Set Project General Properties --> Types of Model Functions
Set Model General Properties -->Types of Model Functions

Note for SAS Model Manager 15.2 on SAS Viya 3.4, the model function “Segmentation” has been renamed to “Clustering”.

  • SAS® Visual Data Mining and Machine Learning 8.3: Reference Help
Contains examples of the Visual Data Mining and Machine Learning models, but does not indicate if they are classification or prediction models. A Decision Tree model can either have a classification model function or prediction model function, depending on the target variable.  For example, if the Decision Tree model has a nominal target, it would have a model function of classification, and if the Decision Tree model has an interval target it would have a model function of prediction.

Best regards,
Kristen
