choosing SAS Viewer version and installing

Are the "free" SAS viewer programs online safe to download to my computer? If so, which one do I want? Sounds like 9.1 is more preferred?

 

Also, will they work if I don't have SAS installed? I just need to be able to view SAS datasets provided to me by programmer

They are safe to download, ensure you're at the SAS official site.

You do not need SAS installed and you should go with the newest version.
