I work at a large company that has lots of data. Most of our data is being stored using the default SAS storage option but we have access to a Netezza database as well. A limited number of people have access to the Netezza database and the upper management doesn't really want us to use it so we are constantly buying more SAS storage. It feels like we should be using a third party data storage option. We have performance issues with SAS projects as well. Should we be using the Netezza database? Would AWS be an option? Or should we just continue using the default SAS storage option?

That depends on a lot of factors. And everyone has its own advantages and disadvantages. I suggest you contact the SAS account rep for your company and ask for a (virtual) meeting with a pre-sales consultant or business development expert to explain the situation and request advice. Storage comes in lots of flavors and quality levels. Do you use additional disks that you stick into the SAS server box, or do you have some company-wide storage solution over a SAN where you order more space?

I don't have insight in the future of Netezza per se, but my feeling is that customers are moving from (usually) expensive on site DW appliances to cloud based storage. So I can understand why management don't want to extend the use of it - sounds like that there is a road map?

Question is what is the use case for this data, perhaps there is need for it outside the SAS domain?

Perhaps you have some data/BI architects at your site that can guide you?
