In the most recent Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Data Integration Tools (november 2023) SAS seems to be have disappeared.

Does this mean SAS dos not consider themselves anymore as a data integration specialist ?

I think SAS is still a challenger or maybe a leader by the way so i was surprised  i could'nt find SAS on the chart anymore.

Was SAS a candidate  for the Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ 2023  for Data Integration Tools SAS?

Could we expect SAS back on the Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for  2024 for Data Integration Tools SAS?

If SAS is not present in the most recent Gartner Magic Quadrant for Data Integration Tools, it could be due to several reasons. It's essential to check the latest Gartner reports, press releases from SAS, or other reliable sources for up-to-date information on SAS's positioning in the market as data enrichment software.

On December 17, 2023, Gartner Inc. published its 2023 Gartner Magic Quadrant for Data Integration Tools. Gartner excluded SAS from the 2023 iteration. SAS remains focused on data integration tools and solutions. As a top vendor in this Gartner Magic Quadrant for many years, SAS continues to provide our customers with comprehensive data management and integration solutions critical to the successful implementation of advanced analytics and AI.

In the previous Magic Quadrant for Data Integration Tools (2022), Gartner cited the following strengths of SAS:

1. Flexibility of design options for data engineers

2. Continued support for collaborative data engineering

3. Enhanced integration for dataops support

In March 2023, SAS launched "SAS Data Engineering" and "SAS Data Engineering Advanced" as a unified, standalone data management offering on SAS Viya. These offerings are positioned to streamline licensing, packaging and pricing while continuing to meet the needs of the four use cases Gartner identified: data engineering, cloud data integration, operational data integration and data fabric design support.

I can't realize why SAS is not in the Quadrant.

Perhaps customers cannot identify a real Data Integration Studio replacement in the SAS Viya Platform and that tool is essential to ensure the aggregated value SAS offers in their solutions.  what do you think?

Good Question ISH_Shuster.

Maybe your hypothesis is rigth at this moment. The current version lack some feature which Data Integration Studio has such as:

  1) Run Jobs or Other code within a loop-transformation

  2) Redeploy Flows (.flw) by anothe users than the one who made the flow

  3) Lineage-features from SAS-studio

But with the current features SAS studio Engineer should be consider as a valid data integration tool.

Therefore it's interesting to know  on which criteria  Garter has excluded SAS from the Magic Quedrant.

@dasoce Could you provide some insight in this ?

In the Gartner® Magic Quadrant™ for Data Integration Tools 2024 is SAS still missing.  I' am interested why SAS is not mentioned?

As an outsider, I have no idea on how discussions and positioning from SAS side towards Gartner works.

SAS investment in DI Studio was due to that fact they could cash in on the general BI and data warehouse era in the late 90s and 2000s.

Now that market has transformed, and SAS hasn't been able (wanted to?) follow and have focused on in-memory processing and different analytical use cases.

Even if product managers say that data management/integration is a big focus, I think product development tells another story. Viya has been around for more than ten years and still the data management offering is weaker than 9.4. The focus now I think is to keep existing DI Server customer and make them migrate to Viya, but I see no actual attempts to be a player on the data integration/data engineering market.
