Hi Asmaaa,

In order for you to see the values of a field in Marketing Automation, you will have to configure the Information Map by identifying those fields you want a profile of, and set the properties of each individual field.  This process is called setting up and generating Metadata.  You should check with the person that built the Information Map and have them set this up, as permissions to do this can vary, depending on role.  Here are the steps:

First, in SAS Information Map Studio, confirm you have the matemplate.txt file set.  Do this through Tools > Advanced tab.  If the "Custom properties at start-up" is not checked and pointing to the matemplate.txt file, check it and Browse to the file.  Typically can be found on the SAS Compute Server in \...\SASHome\SASFoundation\9.4\ma\sasmisc\MAtemplate.txt.  Your directory may vary slightly.  You may need to close and reopen Information Map Studio after selecting to see the Custom properties.

Next, click on the any field in the Information Map Contents section, and confirm that the Custom properties in the right-most Properties pane is visible.

Choose a field that you want to see a profile of values in Marketing Automation.  Once selected, in the Custom properties section, below the Level setting, click the drop-down and select the Metadata property.

Once that has been selected, on the right side, in the Value drop-down, select either Counts or Values.  Repeat this for all fields you want to see and select values for in Marketing Automation.

At the Information Map level, be sure you have a MAMeta LIBNAME statement in Custom properties.  This is a libname that will point to the location where the metadata tables will live after generation.

When finished, Save and Close the Information Map.

Open CI Studio, and select the Setup tab.

Open the Business Context that you are working in and choose the Metadata tab.  It's here that you will generate the metadata that then displays in Marketing Automation when you select a field.  Select the tables you want to create (Numeric, Character, for example).  If you select Histograms, you must have Histogram bins set up in the Information Map.

When ready, click Run Selected Now...  Note that you'll get a warning that metadata will run and it could take some time.  Depending on how many values you selected for generation, it can take quite some time to finish.  In addition, there is no notification when it completes.  Keep checking CI Studio or check on the metadata tables to see if they continue to grow after refreshing.

Tips:

Start small - don't select every field you want metadata for initially.  Test the process out and confirm success before adding more fields and re-running the process

Don't select discreet values for metadata generation - fields like dates and phone numbers and IDs do not need metadata

Know your data - When you select a field to generate metadata on, you lose the 'LIKE' operator in Marketing Automation.  When you generate metadata, it will present a list of all values for you to check off for selection.  In some cases, many values may be alike which will still force you to select them individually.  If you did not have metadata on those values, you could use the LIKE operator in an expression to select.

Know your data #2 - Understand how many unique values are in different fields.  Generating metadata on a field that could have hundreds or thousands of values does not make for a good user experience.  Scrolling through those values when building a campaign could be very difficult.

Numerics that act as IDs and are set as Nominal in the Information Map can have metadata generated.  An example is Deciles, where you might want to produce a list of the deciles for the user to choose.

Numerics that act as numerics and are set to Interval do not need metadata.  Once set to Interval, in Marketing Automation the choices presented to the user upon selection are Min and Max boxes.   It's easier to enter min and max numbers for selection, than clicking all the values desired.

Hope that helps!
