You can now share elements from the SAS Information Catalog via a URL. You can share an information asset (SAS Viya 2020.1.5 stable cadence), or share catalog search results, the asset sample data tab, column details or the discovery agents page (SAS Viya stable cadence 2021.1.3).
Asset Sharing Use Cases
The “deep-linking” feature is available as of SAS Viya 2020.1.5 stable cadence. You can use the deep link feature to perform the following tasks:
- Enrich a SAS Visual Analytics report with the asset URL.
- Share the asset URL in an email, chat or text message.
- Add the asset URL as a link into another application.
- Add the URL to a browser and bookmark the page.
- Store the URL for later use.
The URL
https://namespace.node.domain.com/SASInformationCatalog/details/~fs~catalog~fs~definitions~fs~3a0d5d7b-a1c5-44c6-bfad-0d2174236172~fs~instances~fs~a1dfa088-c670-d240-8d3c-ba122379b9a2
The link points to a definition instance. These two concepts come from the Catalog API data model. See the Catalog API documentation for even more details.
Enrich a SAS Visual Analytics report
When you click the link, you are redirected to the SAS Information Catalog. Here you can consult all the calculated metrics. You can assess in a few seconds what the structure and the quality of the data looks like, if there is any private data, which time period and geography is covered.
The end users get extra confidence in the report when they can consult the catalog metrics.

Conclusions
You can now share elements from the SAS Information Catalog via a URL. You can share an information asset (SAS Viya 2020.1.5 stable cadence), or share catalog search results, the asset sample data tab, column details or the discovery agents page (AS Viya stable cadence 2021.1.3).
You can use the URL to enrich a SAS Visual Analytics Report, add a reference to the asset in a third party application or simply share by email, chat. The “deep-linking” feature is the door opener for more collaboration features. I am looking forward to seeing them in the SAS Information Catalog!
