Five Videos about Viya 3.2 Deployment, now available on Youtube

Hello,

as @PaulHomes already mentionned in a separate thread, I have made available a series of 5 videos on Youtube.

These videos deal with the various aspects of Viya Deployment. (Using Visual Analytics 8.1 as the example).

My goals in creating these videos were:

  1. keep it as short as possible (KIASAP?)
  2. give a realistic view of the entire process

Therefore, watching these videos:

  • will not make you a Viya Deployment expert
  • should give you an idea of what the experience is like, and what skills you will need to be successful.

Here is where you can find the videos.

# Title Description
1 Introduction Introduction to the deployment process, focusing on deployment concepts and architecture
2 Infrastructure Requirements Infrastructure requirements, focusing on servers and networking aspects
3 OS Pre-Requisites OS-level pre-requisites focusing on Ansible and general pre-reqs
4 Install Software Order, installation, and post-installation steps for a SAS Visual Analytics 8.1 deployment.
5 Validation Steps necessary to validate that the SAS Visual Analytics 8.1 environment was deployed and is working properly.

You may want to watch them full screen during the demo parts, if you want to be able to see what it is that I'm typing.

The link to the Viya Deployment Guide can be found on this page

I hope you find this content useful.

Best regards,

Erwan Granger

Thanks for making these videos @ErwanGranger. Very useful!

Thank you for for the effort posting the videos @ErwanGranger,  and @PaulHomes for sharing!

I think it is a great first taste of a deployment of Viya for many. Still and as you remarked several times, very necessary to keep the Deployment Guide close to you.

Erwan, is there any plan to share more videos showing other kind of deployments? Very keen to see more.

Many thanks to both of you.

Part of this effort is to see if the video format works well for this content.

If it is well received, I can certainly make more. (I'll put the both of you down as "wanting more").

Also, this was the "crawl-before-you-walk" content, in order to establish a baseline. Now that this is out of the way, I can certainly go deeper into more interesting deployment scenarios, architecture, best practices, tips and tricks, etc...

If there are particular areas of interest that you have, do let me know, either in this thread or via direct message, and I'll do my best to incorporate that feedback into the next set of videos.

Thanks Erwan, I'd definitely vote for more 🙂

Topics of interest to me include:

  • deployment scenarios and best practices re locating components: simple, scaled, with DMZ etc
  • deployment with SSL and custom CA certificates
  • configuring with internal and external URL access
  • more complex LDAP configurations (and alternative auth mechanisms)
  • post-initial deployment changes - adding additional nodes etc
  • backup/restore
  • logging - where to look and how to customize

... and also highlighting areas where we may be likely to have assumptions from the way we needed to do things with SAS9 that may not be relevant/necessary with Viya. I'm thinking of things like start/stop service dependencies/orders, rebuild/redeploy/restart requirement post configuration changes etc.

Thanks

Paul

I am posting this again as it went missing on Friday during some odd spam activity on SAS communities. Looking at the page again I've noticed all the comment have gone missing, including @ErwanGranger's additional comment, the one I was replying too.
