A time for reflection
What does it take to turn the spark of an idea into tangible results? From my experience with Torrens University – it’s one thing: PEOPLE.
I’ve spoken to the partnership with Torrens Uni on 3 occasions: Supporting Higher Education, Starting from a different place & DataStorm articles. Each time, highlighting a completely different program of collaboration. In all instances, focused on preparing students for the world of work – digital work! About providing students with the opportunity to learn practical skills and develop a competitive edge for when they enter the workforce.
So, 18 months on, and on reflection, what are the highlight?
Integration of SAS into Curriculum.
Torrens University stands out as the first Australian institution to mandate the SAS Machine Learning Specialist certification for its Master of Business Analytics students. This initiative ensures that graduates are proficient in SAS® Viya® and SAS® Visual Data Mining and Machine Learning, aligning their competencies with industry demands.
The university's approach emphasises practical application, engaging students in real-world projects that utilise SAS's machine learning capabilities. This hands-on experience allows students to apply theoretical knowledge to complex data challenges, enhancing their problem-solving skills and readiness for professional roles.
Impact on Employability and Curriculum Development
The collaboration has significantly influenced curriculum design at Torrens University, ensuring that course content remains relevant to current industry practices. Associate Professor Claire Davison, Associate Dean of the School of Analytics and Business Information Systems, highlighted that this alliance is crucial for keeping pace with advancements in analytics and artificial intelligence. For instance, Chenkun Sun, a Master of Business Analytics graduate, noted that the practical projects and case studies involving SAS Machine Learning enabled him to apply theoretical knowledge to real-world scenarios effectively.
