Hi:

  It looks from your screen shot like you are in the Visual Analytics Hub in the VA class in the Big Data Professional module -- that's where we use Insight Toy Company. The error message you show is typical of the one you get when you do not start the LASR servers before you load the data.

  In a production environment, your network group or IT department would start the LASR servers every day. However, on the Amazon Virtual Lab, the student must start the LASR servers and load the tables. If you do NOT follow the required setup instructions, then you are likely to get error messages. Here’s a previous community forum posting https://communities.sas.com/t5/SAS-Academy-for-Data-Science/SAS-Big-data-module-1-Virtual-lab-proble... with a link to a YouTube video that shows the steps they have to follow, as instructed in the Required Setup.

In the first exercise, you log on as Eric to use Insight Toys, I believe. However, before you log on as Eric, you need to follow the required setup instructions that you find in the Table of Contents, as shown below:

va_lasr.png

  In the required setup instructions, you will first need to make a reservation in the Virtual Lab. Then when your reservation starts, you will need to Launch the Virtual Lab.

  The only difference between what you need to do and the instructions, is that we need for you to use Firefox as your browser in the Virtual Lab. Please do NOT use Internet Explorer or Google Chrome in the Virtual Lab. Due to the Adobe Flash player issues, you need to use Firefox instead of any other browser. the instructions in the course were written before Adobe stopped Flash support. But if you use Firefox for the Visual Analytics Virtual Lab work in Module 1, then you will not run into Adobe Flash player issues. If you are prompted to run Flash, just click yes.

  Just remember that in the required setup instructions, you have to log on as Christine and start the LASR servers and load the necessary tables in order to work with any data. You will get error messages if you do not follow the required setup instructions.

Hope this helps explain that you got the error message because the LASR servers were not started. Then you also need to load the Insight Toy Company data too.

You encountered an infrastructure problem (LASR which is a SAS service is not up and running). I suggest to contact support@sas.com and report this issue.

Thanks.

Hi:
This issue does not need to be reported to Tech Support. Students in the class must start the LASR servers on the Amazon Virtual Lab. The required setup instructions for the course show them how to do this setup.

I watched the video and tried to mimic it, but could not find "administrator" on my menu.

Hi;
Please refer to the set up instructions. You will only see the Administrator choice if you log on as Christine, as shown below:

Hope this helps,
