question about reports

hi there,

i m new in SAS and i have a question about reports.

i need to do something like this:

a crosstab report containing for example country and product and premium,
i would like to create a report that will display drill trough information...if somebody clicks on premium for Ireland and Sports Equipment i would like to run another report that will take those 2 values as parameters and display information about counties in Ireland and all products in Sports Equipment...the problem is that i don’t know how to create report that will take 2 parameters and how to set up main report so that it knows what to pass as a parameter to other report.

From my previous experience in Cognos for creating something like that i need 5 clicks so i would think it is possible to do it SAS...

i m lost in all those stored processes and SAS code in general, so if there is a way of doing it simple and effective please respond...

Yes, there is a way to do what you want. In fact, there's more than one way to do what you want. However, what you want to do DOES depend on the environment/platform you have. For example, there's one way to do drill-down reporting with SAS that is a Base SAS method, using one or more of the reporting procedures and ODS.

However, that method/program would have to change in one way if you had the SAS/IntrNet product and would have to change in a slightly different way if you were using a stored process in the BI platform. And, this method might ALSO change, depending on whether you wanted to surface the reports in Web Report Studio vs the Information Delivery Portal vs the Add-in for Microsoft Office.

And, in the context of the BI platform (or the Enterprise Intelligence Platform) -- all of the client applications have ways to surface and drill down in OLAP cubes. OLAP cubes are data structures that are cross-tabular in look and feel when you view them and can have automatic drill-down built in.

I think your best bet for help is to contact SAS Technical Support. They can look at your particular installation/configuration of software and advise you on the best method to use.
