I realize this isn't a direct SAS question but the community has been so helpful I figured I'd throw this out there for anyone's insight.

I've been cruising the net for demographic data, specifically, counts of households by zip code. I was expecting this to be about as easy to find as various climate data compliations but it's turned out to be hard to find.

I've found the data is available through purchase (for about $40 - $150) or is tied to GUI interfaces allowing entry of one zip code at a time for summary statistics. The other option seems to be the US 2010 census data (free, but rather cumbersome to access and use, with yet another GUI for pulling data by one zip at a time).

Is there a source with a simple estimate of household counts by US zip?

As usual forgive my ignorance.

The American FactFinder at the Census Bureau enables you to assemble and download data for a wide variety to demographics and areas.

For other sources, try widening your search. The census bureau collects data at many levels, including ZIP Code Tract Areas (ZCTA) so include that term in your search.  Also MSAs are good.
