I'm putting together a training curriculum for our SAS programs. We'd like to create our own set of 'Best Practices' for the programs written.

I've been doing a little digging around focusing on the concept of efficiency. I know this is a broad area! What I'd like from you would be your recommendations as to white papers, books, etc. Also, if you had to include a tip that fit into the 'improve efficiency of program' category, what would it be?

I define efficiency as anything that affects CPU, memory, storage, file size.

I appreciate your comments!

For tips, your first port of call should be Chuck Patridge's site at http://sconsig.com/.

For white papers, you cannot generally do better than the SUGI web site at http://support.sas.com/events/sasglobalforum/previous/online.html

Others will no doubt provide even more useful sources.

Sue:
There is a SAS training course that has some recommendations based on benchmarking that we've done.
Title is "SAS Programming III: Advanced Techniques" and the description is: "This Level IV course is designed for experienced SAS software programmers who want to add to their programming techniques and identify the most efficient of several techniques for accomplishing a particular task."
