Good morning,

I am exploring the options offered by ODS DOCUMENT and PROC DOCUMENT. Sometimes, when trying to write to a document, I get the following message:

ERROR: A lock is not available for LIB.PROJECT.ITEMSTOR

where LIB is the libname where the document is stored and PROJECT is the document name. I am wondering what is the explanation for this; I always put either a ODS DOCUMENT CLOSE statement at the end of a code block or, if I'm using PROC DOCUMENT, I always ensure there is a QUIT that is submitted at the end. As I'm submitting code, I usually have the Documents Explorer panel on the left. I'm sorry for not putting more information but I'm not sure what I should provide to help solve this mystery Smiley Happy

Thank you for your help,

Daniel

Hi, this is one of those situations where it might be best to work with Tech Support. Somebody has to look at all your code and your permissions to help you figure out what's going on. Usually, if you search on part of your ERROR message in the Tech Support notes, you can find something relevant. When I searched on your error message, I only saw REGISTRY issues or TEMPLATE issues, neither of which seems immediately relevant to document stores. But, if it is a problem with ODS DOCUMENT, then Tech Support is in the best position to alert the developers to find out whether there is a fix or workaround.
