Question: how to open .dat file in SAS studio. Please respond

 

Double clicking CancerRates.dat results in error

"This file does not have an app associated with it for  performing this action. Please install an app or, of one is already install, create an association in  Default Apps Setting page."

 

File properties:

Name: CancerRates.dat

Type: File

Location: /home/u58321213/Statistics Date/CancerRates.dat

Sizer: 230 Bytes

.dat files are typically just text, you can change the extension to txt to see the file values/layout.

A .dta file is a STATA file and you cannot see the contents until you import the file.

The extension "DAT" tells nothing about the file content, so you could try to open it with Notepad++, if it is a text-file, using a data step is the way to use it in sas. But even if it is a text-file you need a file/record description for that file.
