created a distinct count when i am using same in report after applying some filter sum is wrong

i have created the distinct count  of a one category in sas va, and i have used the same in my report and used drop down list filter and in the property tab i have used the option show coloum totals . but after filtering the total is showing wrong (means it is showing only distinct count of a category(attached a screenshot)) after filtering also i want to make it as a dynamic( after every filter total should change) please help to achieve this.

Do a proc contents on the table and check the length and format of the variable. 

my Hunch is it  is set to less than 8 to save space ?
