Hello

I have a variable that has text as the value, and the text has hyphens and backslashes that I have to get rid of to reclassify the variables and run frequencies appropriately. I read the sas documentation on compress function but it's not quite working. Data and code examples below

Examples of disch_disp values: Expired d/t ICU, SNF-hospice

data want; set have;
disch_disp=compress(disch_disp, "/")
run;

If you want to remove both the hyphens and backslashes.

Try :

disch_disp=compress(disch_disp, "/-");
