I wish to use Visual Studio 2015 to connect to SAS, run a program and return results. I've looked around for examples of what to do and have not found a good example of this. If someone could provide a simple example it would be much appreciated. Also note if there are any preliminary set up steps to configure visual studio and where to get any needed addin.

I know that VS has PowerShell integration, and you might be able to use this as a hook to do what you want.  See the newly revised GitHub repo with several PowerShell examples.

Hi @Michael245 and welcome to the Community.

I confess its been a while since I did anything like this but assuming you want to create, say, a C# application which calls SAS and accesses the results you're going to need to use SAS Integration Technologies. The Windows Client Developer's Guide for that is located here and you may find other resources related to Enterprise Guide Custom Tasks also helpful as they, too, are built in Visual Studio using basically the same technology with some additions. I also wrote a paper some years ago showing how you can turn SAS macros into VBA functions which uses Integration Technologies and utilises many of the same techniques you'll need (it's maybe a touch dated by now and there are newer ways of doing things but it all should still work).

It is, as I'm sure you realise, a very big subject with a steep learning curve but it's also very rewarding and you can do some pretty amazing stuff with Integration Technologies if you stick at it.

Good luck with this and if you have any further, more detailed questions, please don't hesitate to post them.

Thanks for your feedback. Sometimes an example is better than invention. lol
