EXPORT is the wrong word, it is confusing you.

 

You need to WRITE the data to a text file.  The PUT statement is doing the writing. The FILE statement is where you specify the name of the file that you want to write. The SET statement is where you put the name of the dataset that you are using.

Thank you for the explanation. "Export" did have my mind thinking incorrectly.
