Hello,
I ma having issues with lesson 3: exploring and validating data. When it try to do PG1.STORM_SUMMARY.DATA, Iget back back an error message on the log stating that PG1.STORM_SUMMARY does not exist. I did the required step on lesson 2 to create the libname.sas. I am using SAS studio. for the same exact reason I restarted the whole SAS practice files installation and still I am facing the same issue.
Please advice and thank you!
Mohab

Thank you for that, I ran the code you provided me and you are right PG1 library does not exist. So instead I ran the the storm summary file through file location as you mentioned and not following the steps of lesson 3 and the file was executed successfully. If it doesn't bother you, how can I assign this file to a library that I would create under name PG1. Thanks again!
Any question about an error should show, from the log the code and all the messages related to that code. Copy the text from the log and on the forum open a text box using the </> icon above the message window, then paste the text.
Did you rerun the LIbname for that library in the current session?
1 OPTIONS NONOTES NOSTIMER NOSOURCE NOSYNTAXCHECK; 72 73 proc print data=pg1.storm_summary (obs=10) ; ERROR: File PG1.STORM_SUMMARY.DATA does not exist. 74 run; NOTE: The SAS System stopped processing this step because of errors. I am not fully getting what is returning libname, If you mean that I created libname.sas in a previous step then yes I did that several times as an attmept to troubleshoot @ballardw thank you for your response
In your code Pg1.Storm_summary the part, Pg1 is the name of a library which is a storage location. If the current session does not have the library Pg1 assigned then the program cannot find the data set Storm_summary.
Please run this code:
libname _all_ list;
You LOG will show all of the libraries currently assigned in the active session and the physical path each one uses.
If you do not see an entry for PG1 then the library is not assigned.
If you do see PG1 then that means the data set named Storm_summary is not in the that library and you need to find out where you put it.
The most common causes of the error message you are getting are :
1) the library is not assigned
2) the spelling of the library is incorrect
3) the spelling of the data set name is incorrect
4) the data set is not in the library at all.
If you used the data set in a previous session that mean almost certainly you executed, or the SAS supplied training set up code, executed a statement like:
Libname Pg1 "<some file path goes here>";
I don't know where you might have set up anything so can't guess what your file path should be. It would look something like
Libname Pg1 "C:\foldername\otherfoldername";
or similar depending on your operating system.
