Hello all,

This might be too basic of a question to ask, but it was really hard to find info on the web (and nobody at my department uses SAS)...

A longtime R user, I recently installed SAS9.4 using my university license. I was watching the free tutorial videos on the SAS website and noticed that the instructor was using SAS Studio.

Is that a separate product that I need to buy, or is it a feature that comes with the standard SAS for PC? My university software license site did not have any download options for SAS Studio (it just has SAS9.3 and 9.4). Any guidance on how to get SAS Studio will be appreciated.

Thank you,

All questions are good questions! It sounds like you're a student if so here are your options for academia:  https://www.sas.com/en_us/learn/academic-programs/software.html If you scroll about midway down you'll see SAS OnDemand for Academics (cloud), University Edition (installed locally on your machine), and the EAS license which it sounds like you're already aware of.  SAS Studio would be your interface.

Here are additional resources for students we thought you may find handy: https://www.sas.com/en_us/learn/academic-programs/students.html Anything we can do to help, let us know!

Thank you so much!!

May I ask just two more questions?

1. I heard that SAS studio just uses the software installed on my machine and uses the web as merely an interface. Is that true for all three options?

2. In fact, I am particularly interested in using PROC GLIMMIX, which was introduced after SAS/STAT 13.1. Do all of these options that you mentioned support this procedure?

Sorry for asking so many questions..

Thank you,

SAS Studio is a web application that is based on a server infrastructure. SAS uses this web app in two offerings for students

  1. On Demand for Academics (cloud based, AWS IIRC)
  2. University Edition (a virtual machine that contains a small server and can be run locally on Linux, OSX and Windows)

Or your university might even have a server setup already, so you only need credentials to use it.
