Hi All,

We have recently installed SAS Office Add-in and are largely interested in using it in Excel.  I'm interested to find out what users have done to optimise/improve the performance of the Add-in.  We are accessing LASR tables through the add-in and find it quite slow, significantly slower than EG on the same client machine.  I'd be keen to see if we can put together a list of mid-tier of application tuning/tweaks here for others.

Many thanks!

Hi WACHS,

we also use the Excel Add-In a lot. Users like it a lot becuae they are pretty familiar with Excel and do not have to dive into another SAS Application.

Performance is always the main problem thinking about the AMO. But the performance issues appear because Excel imports all the data into it's memory (via Network). We already talked to SAS Germany about the issue but there is nothing they can do about it.

We use the Add-In mainly for accessing Information Maps to be opend as PIVOT Table and found it helpful to advice the users only to select the columns they really need and to define filters to keep the amount of data which needs to be transferred vom SAS to Excel as minimal as possible. I do not think that the LASR Server or any other SAS Server (e.g. SPSS) is responsible for slow performance - it's the network transfer.

Cheers, Thomas

Double post as of: https://communities.sas.com/thread/63056

Eguide and Office are sharing the same connection profiles the same app-server context etc.

with Amo 7.1 you can connect to the metadataserver that is shared with SAS-VA.  What's New in SAS(R) 9.4 (SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office)
The LASR server is different within VA and I cannot see how  you would access data in that one.

AMO Should behave like Eguide. SAS(R) 9.4 Intelligence Platform: Desktop Application Administration Guide, Fourth Edition (Administer Profiles for the SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office)

There is a lot on the setup configuration and usage.

SAS(R) 9.4 Intelligence Platform: Desktop Application Administration Guide, Fourth Edition (Configure the SAS Add-In for Microsoft Office for Parallel Execution)  SAS(R) 9.4 Intelligence Platform: Desktop Application Administration Guide, Fourth Edition. For the using review usage docs in online help AMO.

Sometimes there are errors by SAS and those are sometimes having fixes.

No SAS is not error-free and somebody has to be the first person the get that accepted by SAS TS so it can be solved.

Tuning and behavior at the server-side can also give improvements. Any hints root cause analyses done?
