Hi everyone.

Can someone please confirm that running SAS 9.4 on AIX 7.1 virtual instance (LPAR) is well supported?

I have a consultant from SAS that claims SAS 9.4 is only supported on standalone IBM POWER AIX 7.1 systems. In other words, running virtual instance of AIX 7.1 + SAS 9.4 with other virtual instances on the same hardware is not supported.

Regards,

Tsvetan

AFAIK, there is no specific provision for conditioning support to direct installation instead of LPAR, which is rather the norm in practice knowing the cost of an AIX infra.

The discussion becomes more nuanced when dealing with the exact - contractual - definition of the cost metric in the case of a SAS 9 Foundation installed on AIX LPAR (vCpu has 2 or 3 possible definitions that could apply, regardless of SMT threads ...)

That would mean that the (quite large, operating world-wide) insurance company where I worked until my retirement would not have a working, .SAS-supported data warehouse.
