when i go to properties and and in target i see "E:\Program Files\SASHome\SASFoundation\9.4\sas.exe" -memsize 4g -sortsize 2g -utilloc K:\user\SASWORK -work K:\user\SASWORK

i searched online papers as well and read them. but nothing give clear and concise answer.if you can,i will appreciate it.

1.what is memsize 4g mean?what is sortsize 2g mean?

Hello @himalayancat,

all of this is about performance.

memsize and sortsize is the amount of memory that this session can use, for general operations, and for sorting operations. 4g is 4 Gigabytes and 2g is 2 GigaBytes.

Highly recommended reading: http://support.sas.com/resources/papers/proceedings09/333-2009.pdf

About UTILOC, it is a temporary location, for sorting, stat opertions, multi-threaded operations ... By default it is the same location as SASWORK, but it could be different.

Mind of not having them too high if you are under SAS 9.4 M1: http://support.sas.com/kb/50/035.html

You can read about the MEMSIZE and SORTSIZE in the relevant parts of the documentation

MEMSIZE System Option

SORTSIZE System Option

They are both very important from a performance point of view.
