Upcoming Changes to Kubernetes Ingress for SAS Viya 4 Deployments

SAS has conducted initial testing of the Contour ingress controller as the supported replacement for ingress-nginx (Ingress NGINX controller). After the retirement of ingress-nginx in March, the SAS Viya platform will continue to support ingress-nginx interactions for all SAS Viya releases that are in Standard Support. However, because the Kubernetes community will no longer support this ingress technology, no bugs or security issues will be addressed by Kubernetes for that component moving forward and use of ingress-nginx after March 2026 is at your own risk. Components that interact with ingress-nginx will continue to ship in SAS Viya platform software and software offerings until at least Stable 2027.03 and Long-Term Support 2027.03, expected to be available in March and May 2027, respectively. 

SAS intends to provide Standard Support for Contour starting with Stable 2026.02 for new SAS Viya platform deployments. In addition, customers with existing deployments can receive Standard Support for Contour when they update to 2026.02. It is important to note that existing customers should first update their deployments to 2026.02 before converting their cluster environment to Contour. 

Starting with Stable 2026.03, SAS will provide Standard Support for Contour for all Stable and Long-Term Support (LTS) releases of the SAS Viya platform and software offerings in Standard Support at that time.
