Hi Co's,
I was following this document SAS Help Center: Configuring SAS Products
Since I am planning to update SAS 9.4 M7 to SAS 9.4 M8, this step is required for us?
If yes, this is for which tier, metadata, midtier, or compute or all?
Kindly suggest.
@kumarsandip975 Your version of SAS is prior to the February 15, 2022, release of SAS 9.4M7. Configuration is complete and no further changes are necessary.
Web Application Server services run on the SAS mid-tier as they require a web server to operate. Check the Services tab in Windows Task Manager:
The documentation says "If you are running the February 15, 2022, release of SAS 9.4M7, you must rebuild the Windows definition to apply any changes made to its configuration."
Thus if you are using the February 15, 2022, release of SAS 9.4M7, then you would need the steps as mentioned in the documentation.
It is clear in the documentation that "If you are running a release prior to the February 15, 2022, release of SAS 9.4M7, configuration is complete and no further changes are necessary."
Thus it depends on what release of 9.4M7 you are using.
The reason is that February 15,2022 releases use Apache Tomcat in place of pivotal TC Server. These reside on the Midtier.
In case of a doubt I suggest that you open a track with SAS Tech Support. Enclose the output of Proc Setinit in your track.
@Sajid01 can you suggest, how to check what release of 9.4M7 we are using?
PROC SETINIT has following result.
Current version: 9.04.01M7P080520
Hello @kumarsandip975
This is an interesting question. I would appreciate if somebody from SAS can answer this question for the benefit of the community, particularly the number after P in Current version: 9.04.01M7P080520. There must be a purpose for this.
The number after the P is the compile date of the SAS version. In this case it is 05AUG2020. So that would be 20w32.
@MargaretC So back to my original question , do you think , below step is needed while upgrade to M8 from "Current version: 9.04.01M7P080520"
SAS Help Center: Configuring SAS Products
If you are running the February 15, 2022, release of SAS 9.4M7, you must rebuild the Windows definition to apply any changes made to its configuration. For information, see Rebuild Windows Service for Each SAS Web Application Server Instance in SAS Intelligence Platform: System Administration Guide. If you are running a release prior to the February 15, 2022, release of SAS 9.4M7, configuration is complete and no further changes are necessary.
I am just assuming, "February 15, 2022, release of SAS 9.4M7" - this is nothing but just SAS 9.4 M7 which released on Feb 15 2022 as per below chart.
Prior to "prior to the February 15, 2022, release of SAS 9.4M7" meaning M6, M5, M4 etc..
No, there are two version of M7 listed above. The first one shipped on 05AUG2020.
So you do not need to make the configuration updates.
@kumarsandip975 Your version of SAS is prior to the February 15, 2022, release of SAS 9.4M7. Configuration is complete and no further changes are necessary.
I have followup question on SAS Help Center: Install and Configure a Software Update
Whether this steps is required on M7?
