Hi All
Need an info, which setup will be good for using EG and Miner. SAS Server direct access or accessing thru Client setup.
Around 10-15 Users.
Thanks

I agree with @LinusH and as he says a terminal server or Citrix-type approach is best. I would not recommend running EG say on your SAS Application server as it would degrade server performance and reliability. Note EG runs only on Windows so if your SAS servers don't use Windows you would have to put EG on a separate server anyway.
On the other hand you can make EG easier to install on client PCs by automating installs with software like SCCM.
Also Enterprise Miner has a web-based client that doesn't require any installation at all.
Please explain what you mean by "SAS Server direct access" and "accessing thru Client setup".
Do you mean having EG run on the server and everyone just log on to the server to access it versus having EG on each user's PC?

Thanks a lot for ur timely replies.
We also want to go with EG installation on Client PC's but dont know whether is it a good option or not.
Thanks again

I my experience EG installation on client PCs is the most common way, and simplest too. Typically terminal servers are used only when it is common practice in the organisation.
One advantage of client PC installs is that you easily install new versions and apply maintenance individually without affecting other users. Hence testing new SAS client software is easier.
so SCCM is better approach than App V install, what is the difference between them ?
Using SCCM on a desktop for software installations will give you all access to all data on the desktop.
The disadvantage is the interactions on the Windows level (Dll's/registry)
App-V / Vmware does the same thing mostly combined wiht SCCM adding a vritualization layer so those interactions at Windows level will be eliminated for the most. It is adding new interaction problems as all interactions things your are needing must be configured.
Both are using an instatlion on the desktop. That is an big advantage with Eguide as you can get the intergration wiht all desktop data and tools. This intergation as desktop resources is killed when adding a new dekstop policy by promoting eg citrix.
Having more SAS tools than think on how they interact in you exisiting IT environment.
Eguide and AMO are .NET and are at their best when combined in existing desktop approaches.
The java clients like SMC EMiner DI-studio Eminer etc. Do not interact at the desktop and have no Windows interaction. Wiht a JPRE (Private JAVA run-time) you could do a copy-only-deployment approach. The issue will be the maintenance proces by SAS (check/apply updates). In well organized approaches (becoming mandatory) you will need to do that centralized.
Running a webstart approach for miner is technical possible. Not ver advisable as the java run time being used will become the one of the used browser. Becoming dependent of the browser does not make sense. Have seen that pitfall by eperience.
Go, Licensing is about the money / contracts you have agreed on in the sales proces.
It coul be really anyting. Named-user, limited number of users. server-based wiht no limit on the cliënts. Ask you internal puchase/procurement person for those details and when those are not clear .... negotiate....
