A quick question on the license renewal activity on windows servers, do we need to do this as sas admin? When we try to renew it with our ID, it is showing an error but the setinit.log file is not getting updated. It has the old timestamp so unable to debug further.

Quick response is highly appreciated as we need to do this renewal by coming Monday.

Thanks in advance!

As per my knowledge, you should always renew licenses using the account that SAS was installed with, which is 'sas' default unless you used an exception. Hope that helps.

You could try remoting into your SAS server and right click on the renewal program and "Run as Administrator". Your use account still needs enough permissions to allow this.

One must use the SAS installer / SAS Admin account. The SAS installer account owns the  folders and files belonging to the SAS installation. A normal user generally does not have necessary permissions on the SAS folders/files. Therefore if one tries to update license as an ordinary user, it may not work.

One possible work around could that the users is a member of the Server Administrators group  he can.

Normally a sas user does not have this privilege and may not be able to run anything as  an administrator.
There could be exceptions but not a general practice.
