I usually use SAS at work but have a home copy for learning with. At home I manage my own laptops, desktops etc. I want to update Java when the Java available indicator says a new version of Java is available. When SAS is at work it is not talking ot the Internet and getting updated by itself. Does SAS update it self online? I am worried that I lose graphing if I uppdate the Java. I noticed SAS EG at home does update itself.

What SAS version are you running? If it is SAS 9.4 then SAS includes a private Java version as part of the installation so updating "public" Java shouldn't be a problem. However if you are running SAS 9.3 then you should only install the officially supported Java versions.
