Hi,

What is the major differences between SAS Virtual Server and SAS Physical Server.

In detail here,

Case 1:- If SAS 9.2 or any new version installed on VM Server then we want to host in a data center as a physical server what are the major changes need to take care in the view of SAS Application.

Case 2 :- If SAS 9.2 or any new version installed on one perticular IP Address on VM server then we want to host in a data center (As a virtual & physical) which has a different IP Address what are the major changes need to take care in the view of SAS Application.

A part from SAS Application view what are the major changes need to take care of OS Level.

Assume OS is UNIX/LINUX.

Please let me know your valuable inputs.

Thanks,

Reddy

In addition to the thread Jaap cites, you might also want to check out the following white paper:

http://support.sas.com/resources/papers/MovingVirtuaVMware.pdf

It provides comparisons w.r.t. performance and resource consumption between physical and virtual environments.  Although the paper is written from the perspective of moving from a physical to a virtual environment, you should be able to use the information as you plan to move in the opposite direction.
